Talking Worlds greatest dragrace...

Real-world head to head against many cars, LFA doesn't do too shabby, 5th place... But still one-off car essentially. Still love it!

I posted this in the Laguna Seca thread

This is what they say about the LFA:

Other interesting Edmonds observations: "The [Bridgestone Potenzas] are the most low-tech parts on the LFA," and "The rear tires on the Boss 302 are three years old, so they're obviously an off-the-[dusty] shelf fitment."

If Lexus has not learned anything yet, it is time to fire Bridgestone

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition: 1:34.43 (Michelin Pilot R compounds)
Ferrari 458 Italia: 1:36.22
Nissan GTR: 1:36.35
Lexus LFA: 1:36.39
Audi R8 V10 GT: 1:36.39 (R compound Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires)
Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS: 1:36.77 (Michelin Pilot Cup R compounds tires)
Mercedes SLS AMG: 1:38.82
Mustang Boss 302 Leguna Seca Edition: 1:41.06 (R compound Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires)
Porsche Cayman R PDK: 1:41.64
Lotus Evora: 1:42.49 (R compound Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires)

Yeah, they got a 4.0 seconds 0-60 mph from the LFA. That is very sad and bad for the LFA rapport.

Still, the trap speed of 124 mph compared to the 122 mph of the GTR tells the full story that it was catching up very quickly near the end of the drag race. Plus they go into extensive details that LFA's weakest link is its tires, which are the least grippy out of all the cars there.

By trap speed:

1 - Ferrari 458 Italia - 126 mph
2 - R8 V10 GT - 125 mph
3 - Lexus LFA - 124 mph
3 - SLS AMG - 124 mph

Also I have not seen a race where they actually use the launch control correctly in the LFA!

Yes, 4.0 seconds from the LFA when the 458 Italia got 3.2 seconds on the same surface means, something was seriously wrong with the way they launched the LFA.

Again, just like the tires, Lexus USA is to blame for it since they don't allow usage of launch control system.

^^ It might have spun off the line or the driver launched a bit too relaxed....

Either way who cares..!!! LoL

You need a whole day with the car to learn how to launch it 100% spot on..

you know, i don't know a whole lot about the ferrari, but it appears that it crushes the lfa, and costs about 2/3 as much. what am i missing?

lol you should have posted this in the thread in car chat than in this forum

similar things can be said about gtr against most cars in this drag imho. i have to be honest and say the 458 is quite a bargain for what it is. i think it looks super sexy and exotic, price is very reasonable, and performance is quite darn good

1 - Ferrari had a special test engineer there who was testing and tuning the car as the tests were being conducted. It was also wearing super sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Still, 458 Italia's lap time was identical to the LFA.

2 - The trap speed was only 2 mph different inspite of LFA's very poor 4.0 seconds 0 - 60 mph and 458 Italia's 3.2 seconds 0 - 60 mph.

3 - Read their prices for each car. The 458 Italia actually costs around $300,000 OTD.

4 - MotorTrend said LFA's Bridgestone tires were the worst out of the group and do not gripping well at all and cannot handle the power well making it "edgy". Ferrari initially used these S001 tires on the 458 Italia, but then dumped Bridgestone and terminated their contract because of "poor performance" in favor of the SS tires.

5 - The GTR killed the 458 Italia so GTR is 1/3rd the price, ran the same lap time and killed the 458 Italia in the drag race.

6 - On a grippy surface like on a drag strip with freshly sprinkled grip compound, both LFA and SLS AMG would be very close to the 458 Italia.

Look at this race. Exactly the same LFA #032 was less than 2 car lengths from the GTR at the finish line:

Saw this race on toyotanation.com. Like to see this race at a real dragstrip, one driver and all cars with the same tires. Not just one run, several runs. Been around drag racing since I was a kid, Motorcity Dragway was just a couple of miles from my home. Fun to watch, I remember spending all day just dialing in my friends 69 pro street Camero.

Cool video. That 458 Italia is damn quick. I like how it was reeling in the GTR. I'm beginning to like it more than the McLaren.
