Default H7 6000K HID kit from XenonDepot

I'm really close to buying the H7 6000K HID kit from XenonDepot... genuine Philips parts, 1 yr warranty... sounds good to me. After reading over a lot of the installation writeups, I may have convinced myself I can do it, too. But as I was reading through, I saw someone mention that the HIDs may reflect poorly in the ES headlight casing. Is that where the oven trick comes in, where I have to heat them up to melt the reflecting material off?

I'm a bit confused, any info would be great!

When you mentioned putting the headlights into the oven, I think you were confused with doing a complete retrofit using projectors from another car (i.e. Audi TT, BMW 3, 5 series, etc.). You have 2 options to go with when switching to HIDs. One, you can do a plug and play swap using a kit from Xenon Depot, or two, you could do a complete retrofit using projectors from cars I've listed above. You were right when you said you heard someone mention that stock headlights may not produce the best output for HIDs, but it will certainly be brighter than with regular halogen bulbs. Of course the best would be to do a complete retrofit, but that will take some time, effort, and extra cash.

I did not think you could buy the HID kits anymore?

But here is my 1998 with Phillips 6K Ultinons:

Cool

You should NOT be doing a bulb swap in an ES, unless its an early projector one. The glare is too much.
Here's a shot of my '93 ES bulb swap from last year.

Mine have glare, but are fairly good IMHO. I've still never been flashed in a city, which is nice!

Not to be disrespectful, but your HID's are the ones that cause people problems. The cutoff is horrible! Check the glare out! This is why it became illegal to *sell* the kits.

None taken.......All I can say is that is my car passes inspection (safety and emmisions) every year in the wonderful taxing state of MA, no high beam flashes since I have installed and state and local police say nothing.

I have seen some better and some much worse so I do not feel bad..Looks good to me!

I used to get people flashing me all the time in my old truck that had the lights 4 feet up. But that was legal...what a joke...
