Default Anyone know much about DDE Halo Lights?

Does anyone know much about DDE (Daylight Demon Eyes) Gen V Halos? I got a kit custom installed on my RX300. But they are super dim and somewhat disappointing. The light isn't evenly distributed as well. I have them wired to my parking lights. Should I wire them directly to my battery instead?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm just about to give up with this whole stupid project!

Sincerely,
Pat

Please no bimmer-wannabe flames!

I haven't keep up with the DDE since I sold my BMW and they had just come out with teh Gen IV I believe. Anyway, I remember the light boxes being very bright and fiber optic so I don;t know why yours are dim. I would say that during the daytime it never achieved the same brightness as the OEM Angel eyes on the 5 and 7, but at night it was more than comparable.

Vamp, I moved your post to the lighting forum to see if we can get more exposure for it and maybe an answer from the experts!

Some angel eyes run off of LEDs so they run on lower voltage so I wouldn't wire them directly up to the battery without rewiring it. As for the brightness, it may be a property of the eyes themselves. Some eyes do not have good reflective properties. Also, perhaps the reflective housing defracts the light a bit.

www.Umnitza.com thats where I got mine from. There the ones with the Phospheres rings instead of the old led and acrylic rods.

Thanks Lil4X for moving my post. It didn't even occur to me to post it in the Lighting section.

Anyways, here's little info on my setup. I am using light boxes with 35 watt Halogen bulbs inside. The fibers that connect to the rings and light boxes were cleanly cut with a cigar cutter. This was supposed to take care of my problem with the uneven light distribution, but as you can see in my pictures, it didn't really solve the problem. I have no clue what to do, and I think that I may be another ripped off customer.

The person who did this custom install is a recommended installer for Umnitza (however, I will not name names). To be honest, he was not much help after he received my payment. He pretty much left me hanging with this. I have no experience with cars or electrical work so I am hopeless. I turn to you guys at CL because you have never led me astray!

I will take ANY of your suggestions. I am desperate!

Sincerely,
Pat

Below are some pics. Forgive me for not posting them altogether in this post (I have never posted pics before)

Ok this pic was sent to me by that certain Umnitza-recommended installer. This, according to him, is what they should look like. I am a looooong ways away from achieving that.

siniquezu, you mentioned rewiring it if I were to connect it to the battery. Would you be able to please describe the approach? I know absolutely nothing about electrical work. Someone mentioned using a relay to hook it up to the battery. What is a relay and can I get one from a local hardware store?

Ideas anyone? Please help! I am lost

You'd have to get a relay from your local electronics store. Hooking it up isn't simple but it isn't too difficult. There's a bunch of wiring schemes available. I'd look up single pole double throw relays. As for the DDE eyes, they look like they were poorly made. The light distribution doesn't look like it reaches the midpoint on each side. Now this could be two problems:

1) The spacing of the cuts are in a bad position because it is in the wrong side or has too much gap.

2) The light source isn't aimed directly into the eyes.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...?postid=992197

To me it looks like a combination of both. (1) The cuts look like they were made on the wrong side of the ring itself. Meaning that the rear of the ring is where the cuts should be. Its seems that only the outer edge of the ring is where the cuts are. (2) There should also be two lights aiming into each end of the ring. The ring isn't lit on one end.

Hope that helps.

Holy cow!! Sounds like I got quite a bit of work to do. siniquezu, thanks for taking the time to offer your help. I can see what you are talking about...but I am not 100% confident I am capable of doing this on my own. I couldn't even swap my headlights by myself (I had to take it to a local shop). Do you do work with DDEs? I am willing to pay for your services...I'll pay for shipping both ways. You sound pretty knowledgable. Let me know if you are interested. If not, then...

In order to address the problems you mentioned, do I have to open up the headlight housing to fix it?

Also, am I pretty much screwed? Or is it repairable?

Thanks for ALL the help you have given me so far.

Pat
