I am still puzzled as to what to do about installing an HID kit. What exactly comes with a plug and play kit? Do I need retrofitting/housing to have the kit installed on my 96 LS? I want a nice clean OEM output. I would like to achieve the color of the Audis.
Any info/help about this? Thanks!

Plug and play kits come with everything necessary to install the HID kit...i.e. HID bulbs, ballasts, wiring...etc. You don't necessarily need to retrofit your existing housing with housing made for HIDs, unless you plan to do a complete retrofit (i.e. installing BMW, Audi, etc. projectors into your headlights), which will yield the best results. I have yet to see anyone who has done a complete retrofit in there 1st or 2nd gen LS...I figure even if someone did accomplish this the light pattern/output wouldn't be significantly better unless they had their headlight lenses crystal cleared. It would require way too much work and time IMHO.
As for achieving the clean OEM output...you should go with 4100-4300K HIDs (OEM color). As for the color of Audi HIDs, if you're talking about the color flicker that you get from the projector headlights of Audis....it's not gonna happen unless you do a complete retrofit using Audi, BMW, MB, etc. projectors.
I'd suggest that you just go with a plug and play kit...I'm sure you'll be very satisfied with it. If you're located in So. Cali, I could recommend you to an excellent installer for plug and play HID kits...just PM me if you want the info.

I found another way to retrofit HID into the LS or other cars like it...check out this headlamp design.

IF we can construct something like this but only with the LS headlamps where the light shines in the full lowbeam upper extension of the headlamp then we'll be able to achieve 100% OEM reflector HID from the LS headlamp.
