Default Small orange lights ( I dont know what they call them)

This may sound weird to some, but I’m thinking about installing those small lights BMW, and Mercedes and newer LS’s have near the sunroof switch to light up the gearshift and console at night. It’s usually a little orange dim light that gives a luxurious appearance. It’s on of those things you wouldn’t notice. I have no idea what they are called, but has anyone tried to install something up there using the power from the rearview mirror? I tried doing that, but the light i used was TOO dime, and was out powered by the lights from headunit/AC. I really wish I knew what they were called so I hope a few know what I’m trying to describe.

My question is, anyone know what they are called, or where i can find a kit that i can buy?
Thanks guys.

After a long search, this pic is all I can come up with....

It’s that little light below the middle garage door opener, it’s not lit in the pic, but that’s the best one I can find. This little light softly and dimly illuminates the wood/gearshift console at night, giving it a very nice touch. Hopefully some LS430 owners can chime in and explain it better then I can. This light can be found in newer Mercedes/BMW/Infiniti/LEXUS cars.

the dome light that turns on when you want it to or you open the doors? the map light that is (taking a wild guess here) supposed to aid you in reading maps? with the picture you're giving me, thats all i can help you with.

Here is a picture from my GX470. It has it and it looks pretty good. It comes with the car. It's always on just to let you know. So here's a better pic for you to see.

Good luck

THANKS FOR PIC BRO!

Yup, was wondering if anyone has ever came across a kit or even just a little light with a shaped prism to perform the same function that I could tuck between the mirror and sunroof controls? I know the wood on the 2nd gens LS’s would look very nice glowing of the reflection of the lights. I tried this with my older car, and it looks great, but havent found one producing the perfect amount of light for the LS's console.

I think they are called mood lights, or thats what i call them. This girl I used to mess with had a 330Ci and it had those lights in red, but it was way to bright, and looked sorta wierd in her car, almost distracting, But they would probably look nice in orange. Anyway, I would have thoguht that it would be hard to install those considering you would probably have to drill in the console to get those lights in there. I believe that they were LED lights too. Sorry but I have never seen a kit, or even heard of anyone modding that in there car. Good luck though.

Bringing up an old thread.

The "mood light" in the newer LS dims when the car is in motion, as not to blind the driver with bright LED.
But they return to full power when the car is in park (I think)

I'm very interested in this mod as well, I put a couple of blue LEDs in the IS3 footwell, and it looks pretty good, would like to match them with some same color LEDs on the overhead console, hopefully I'll be brave enough to put some on the door handle as well.
