Are you talking about Bi-xenon, DOT, E code or standard non-bixenon units here? I've had DOT standard single xenon units and now have just upgraded to the E code versions (single xenon). Each time I modified the shield, I was able to remove it if I wanted to. You must be refering to the bixenon versions

CEO. It took some time maybe about a week on and off about two to three hours a day because I was wiring up the fogs as well. Lexus4jess brackets for the E39 projectors worked great I just had to use a dremel on the projector a bit to get the bracket to hold on correctly. I also added Hair beads to even the projector as it was Tilted to funky. By that I mean the bottom of E39 projector is big and sticks out some and the two projectors are slightly different at the bottom (Driver and pass. side). It was well worth it. Siniquezu made me a awesome harness as well. I tried to hook the ballast directly to my stock headlight lines and I blew the headlight fuses instantly. So the harness was great. Then it sucks trying to find a place for your ballast so they are not so visible but safe. If you need any advice just PM me. Later man, and thanks again siniquezu

Siniquezu,

I also wired the fogs to a toggle switch, it was easy as pie I placed the toggle switch inside the armrest. Its nice. I like the ability to control the fog seperately. I can post pics if anyone is interested

Any questions, Just PM me. I think the way I have the fog lights set up is better than described on intellexual.net. Because the ability to controll the fogs seperate as to tapping into the City lights. Time for the next Mod. I also compared my E39 HID retrofit with my wife's 2001 RX300 w/ HIDS and it blows her's away Much better cutoff and brighter it seems like. I am going to try and take a pic. Thanks for the props CEO

Ohh yeah. The E39 is a pretty poweful projector. You'll enjoy those. I did when I had them in this summer. Since then, I've switched up to the E46 E codes and man those things are nice too. Small in size, bright output,(much better than the American DOT versions) razor sharp beam pattern and colorful cuttoff. I've got to find my digicam. As for the comparisons, I too eclipse other people's cars! I get the neighbor's acura tl everytime!

Which one is a better fit in the ES300 92-96 OEM projector... the E39 or the E46? By better fit I mean snug, with minimum or no gap between the retrofit projector and the ES300 Projector housing.

By the way, you guys are doing good work in sharing info here at CL. Keep it up! I'm from A-TL, working on a project with the ES300 headlamps.

Thanks!

E39 fits best as far as no gap. It takes alot of grinding with the dremel and cutting of the internal metal cylinder to customize it to fit the E39. Let me show you some examples:

1. E39 in my ES

2. E46 in my ES

This is what you'll be cutting/grinding through to fit your projectors

You retro looks clean... when you say cutting/grinding... is it for the overall diameter of the E39 projector to fit or is it the lenght of it? or both? I saw a SC400 with a retro, believe E46, that looked real good, with the "xenon" ring around it.... that looked real clean as well. Are the OEM projector housing diameter the same on the ES and SC?

Thanks for helping!

It's from this thread: SC RETRO

You'll need a dremmel saw to cut into the metal cylinder to grind down the OEM halogen projector metal so you can place a projector in there.

Here's an example from Kyle Harty who also did an E39 retrofit on his 92

http://www.sounddomain.com/id/kyleharty

THis is exactly what you're gonna have to do to get the E39 in there.

THere's alot of surface to cut and grind down with the dremmel. I used some cutting discs as well as the metal grinder bit. I'm not sure which # it is but it did wonders and dramatically cut the time down. With the E39 in there, your fit and finish will look like this

So there's no need for the E46 Xenon shroud here. Just grab the projector and read our
from 03 when we talked about our retrofit experience. It was the first for us so use our problems as stepping stones to avoid the traps. PM me if you need help
Mike
