Default Aftermarket HID vs. OEM Lexus HID's ???

Need some more advice here.. Just got some Mecca HID's 8500 i beleive.. Just got an offer on a whole set up factory Gs300 HID lights complete for $450.. Should i resell my aftermarket ones and get $300 and put it towards the OEM one and resell the regular headlights.. or should i keep this set up of aftermarket ones.. Also which one looks brighter?...

8500? does that mean 8500k? that's so dim, the factory will kit it any day in terms of light output

if you can do it, i say factory of course, the cutoff is so much nicer and sharper.

Henry,
If it is a GS, bulb rating makes no difference on cutoff b/c it is a reflective setup.

EDIT *fixed*: It's probably a comparative view that makes it seem like higher rated bulbs scatter more light. Meaning: assume the headlights have a blurry cutoff line. Higher rated bulbs are dimmer than the oem hid bulbs. Since the light is scattered because of the blurry cutoff, the higher rated bulbs look like they have poor cutoffs because their dim light is comparable to the scattered light. Meanwhile, the OEM rated bulbs are brighter. They appear to have a sharper cutoff because they are brighter compared to the scattered light.

for example:
http://www.jimloy.com/puzz/illusio2.gif
In the picture above, the right square, the black border makes the gray square look more distinguished as compared to the left square with the white border.

How does this translate to light?
Let's assume that the borders are HID bulbs that vary in brightness. The gray center is the scattered light. Since the OEM bulbs have a greater contrast compared to the scattered light (black border on gray square), they appear to have a sharper cutoff. Whereas the dimmer bulb has less contrast with the scattered light and appears blurry (white border on gray square).

Wonder if anyone is still reading this.....

Well, the reflectors for the halogens and the HID headlights are different. It is probably the shape of the reflector that is giving the HIDs a better cutoff.

No. Different type of bulbs (HID vs halogen) and different bulb base (9006 vs D2R).
