If you put D2S bulbs in projectors vs D2R bulbs in reflectors, then there is a color difference (mainly because of the projector lens). The bulbs on its own burns pretty white to me.
I have modded D2S capsules in my D2R reflectors and my lights are VERY purple (for reflector lenses)

but to the best of my knowledge and understanding, Phillips marketing strategy and scheme (in japan) depicted pix of purple light being emitted on the ground as being the "cool" thing.
This was the reason I bought them (that and some cheap korean HID bulbs burnt out on me within a month's span each time) I wanted something that would last (as decent HID capsules SHOULD last a min of 5 years) and look purple at the same time.
