HIDs dont burn significantly hotter than halogen bulbs as they only operate on 35W.

I swear my lowbeam housing with HID bulb is hotter than when I had just halogens in there.

So a 35W HID bulb is just a bit hotter (not significantly hotter) than a 55W 9006 halogen OEM bulb....so in this case.... wattage is not directly proportional to heat emitted when comparing HID to halogen.

Comparing halogen to halogen...yah...wattage and heat are directly proportionate to one another....you see 100W blue bulbs blowing up or melting wires/sockets.

Anyways....my point is.... if you put that HID bulb in a smaller confined space like the GS' fogs...esp with the yellow cylindrical lens shrouding the HID bulb at a few centimeters away....it gets hotter than normal (logically speaking)....which maybe the reason for Rom's HID bulb in his fogs to blow if its ON too long.

Just my opinion.

Pete

PHML, thanks for the tip man, I didn't know this may occur. I sometimes turn the fogs on, not all the time.

Rominl, did u find out the cause of the breakage?

i used my hid yellow fogs as long as my headlights were on, sometimes as long as 5+ hours non-stop. so heat was never a problem (it did get very warm though)

after all the testing and guessing, i am pretty sure the breakage was due to the fact that i turned on an off the fogs for like 15 mins in 2 hours the night before. i was outside taking pics so i had to turn on and off the fogs pretty "often". guess that caused teh bulb to ignite and turned off too often

D-MAN or Henry, Was wondering if your hid Yellow fogs over power your headlights when it shoots to the floor (Yellow Floor?). How's driving with it on during rainy weather?

nop, it doesn't over power the headlights in a sense that the fogs are aimed and positioned so low, it's only the very local area around your car that get ALL yellow. when my hid headlights and hid fogs were on, from inside the car, you see that the immediate area around your front are all yellow. but then it's all white from the hid headlights

IC, Thanks. Still have a set of spare HID ballast that i want to throw on the fog lights.

It's already bad enough for me when it rains. Hope I dont make it worse with the fogs.

I got 4300k Philips HID (Xenon Depot) in NON HID Headlamps
I aimed it correctly which is not shooting up high but still get glare. Everytime I hop on the freeway when it's raining, i cant see anything. Mist gets kicked up by other cars causing a thick blanket so when i'm right behind them, it's like i'm driving in fog with my highbeams on.. Other cars see all the mist too when they drive next to me or behind me.

So if you ever try to high beam during fog, thats what it looks like but not that intense.

What i'm guessing is that since i have 4300k, i'm picking up all the mist in the air. My friend with 6000k doesnt really pick up that much mist with his HID.

This will be one of 2 of my next mods. I'll be throwing another 6000k kit in there.
