Can they have been isntalled incorrectly, and or adjusted? it is a pain to reopen...

pay attention to both sides of the headlights. it will come to a point where suddenly one (or both) headlights will glare on you. if they both glare at the same time or very close, then you are fine. otherwise the one that glares you first it's higher
there are bolts at the back of the headlights to adjust the leveling. if you look inside the headlights and the hid bulbs look level, then they should be installed correctly

Sounds like you had a busted ballast from that first headlight, odd those bulky ballast seem to be bullet proof. If they replaced only one headlight your bulbs most likely dont match unless they used the + bulbs but in most cases dealerships are supposed to replace both headlights or at least both of the bulbs. If one of your lights is higher then the other dont worry about it, it takes a professional tech to align them so if its of a little then just forget about it.

but I can tell it shines in the rear view of some cars ahead of me
dunno how much higher it is, or actually how much lower it should be, in order to be categorized as normal

The bulbs that you are talking about are 4300K,
"The bulb is 4300K, which is factory but also known as best."
is what it said on the auction page
but are 6000k better?
GERMANY MADE PHILIPS 6000K D2R XENON HID BULBS

Also Happened To Me!!
Tonight my driver side stock HID turns on for 10 seconds but in a low output purple light then starts flickering. After about a minute of flickering it shuts off. Passenger side lights up fine.
By using the AMAZING SEARCH FUNCTION, it seems like it is my HID bulb and NOT my ballast. Anyone to back this up?
If it is my bulb, would you all reccomend getting the 6k bulbs or stick with stock K?
Much appreciated!

I found some bulbs but will the ones that go on the IS300 fit a LEXUS GS400 98.
they are the stock that came off a 2002 lexus IS.
thanks
Is there any way i can also get my High beams to be xenon as well, without doing alot, like getting some nice bulbs only, and yes one last question, on my 98 gs400 the drl lights are like really dim, well it doesn't have any drls to tell you the truth it is just at the first switch on the headlight thing. but anyway is there anyway to get those lowbeam mid lights to get brighter like the side headlamps maybe like at night?
thanks

Not to insult anyone but you shouldnt be giving such poor advice by telling the guy to buy new bulbs. When a headlight turns on and then turns of after a short period of time its a ballast issue. The easiest way to find out is to switch the bulbs, if this happens with 2 different bulbs then you've just diagnosed your problem. A ballast is a computer, if it detects even the slightest problem in its operation it will shut down to prevent any damage. Switch the light bulbs and see if the same thing happens then you need 1 new ballast. Oh and if you need d2r light bulbs I got 4 pairs, 3 brand new and 1 used for about 20 hours the brand new once are 75 shipped for the pair and the used one 70. Even if its not your light bulb causing the problem you should still get new light bulbs since your car is a 98 and has seen its fair share of use.

Well i am glad i am getting advice from all but how sure are you that all of us are having ballast problems, we have all been looking at the same symptoms, the first guy had a bulb issue, and was describing the same problem, the second guy did some research and is pretty sure it is a bulb problem, now i am left and i don't know if i need to buy bulbs or ballasts, how much is a ballast brand new?
thanks
