Let there be LIGHT
My 2001 GS-430 has HID lighting. Can someone please correct the following assumptions:
1) HID pertains only to the low beam lights. The High beams are halogen. (Based on the fact that replacement bulbs are around $80.00 ea for the low beams, and $10.00 for the high beams)
2) I can install 80Watt Hella bulbs in the high beams without worry about the wiring harness or melting the light covers.
3) The fog light bulbs can be safely upgraded. Suggestions?
4) From reading articles about HID, it would be a good idea not to have my lights set to "Auto" When I start the car in a dark garage, the lights come on. Shortly after backing it out during the day, they shut off. I have read that this lowers bulb life?
Thanks
Bill

1) correct
2) you need to worry, stock is like 50 or 55w. 80w is a big jump
3) it can be upgraded. but same as high beam, you don't want to go anything higher than 60 or 65w imho. or you can upgrade it with hid kits if you wish
4) well auto headlights are on most vehicles nowadays. i have a feeling that if it's from factory, it's fine, they should have designed it in a way to withstand the on and off. if it's hid kits then i say it's a big no-no
