Default Can I retrofit w/o a relay?

If the stock harness handles lightbulbs of 55w and 60w... can i install my HID retrofit on my 98ls400 w/o an additional relay and harness???

thank you

Christian

Why not?

1) They are less wattage...
2) the wiring diagrams (which I can post) have absolutely NO difference between them except the end... which one is to the ballast and the other directly to the bulb.

I was puzzled by the additional relay anf fuse requirement myself. I checked oryginal Toyota wire diagrams and there is no difference between regular and HID wireing on the sample models I checked.
Saying all that we assume use of Toyota/Lexus OEM components. I personaly used Toyota OEM Koito ballasts and don`t bothered with any modification on power supply side.

Problem starts when we build HID system on aftermarket commponents. I would rather follow aftermarket manufacturer requrements for wireing.
In the case of adopting HID ballasts from other than Toyota OEM supliers I would copy power hookup from particular model car ballasts are adopted from.

I read here people blowing 15A fuses, that is a serious stuff to consider.

Things to remember, power side of Toyota halogen headlights is alredy fed thru the relay, control side doesnt run on full power required to fed halogens.
So the power spike generated by ballasts is afecting only power side, not control side of the that circuit. Power side is protected by 30A main fuse and two separate 15A fuses for each headlight. Similar to gentleman from the linkie recomendations, exept that Toyota add protection for each headlight separately. Toyota rule.
