Default Extend wires between ballast and bulb?

I finally started installing those Denso ballasts I got over a year ago. No problem on the passenger side of the car, but on the driver side, I can't find a place to mount the ballast. The wires between the ballast and the bulb are pretty short (maybe 5 inches). Is there any reason why I shouldn't extend those wires to 1 foot? Maybe a dumb question. Just wanted to make sure before I start cutting them.

Thanks!

The thick wire between the ballast and bulb is short and should not be extended unless done by a professional.

I had a similar problem so instead of doing that, I extended the power wire by 2 ft. (it was the red 16 / 18 gauge wire) that connects with the battery. That gave me much more room to work with on the driver side.

Good luck.

pete is right, you want to make sure that's done correctly so connectivity (probably need soldering) is very good and everything is stable, otherwise you are supplying unstable current and so to the bulb and it could be bad

If you're good at soldering and can make a reliable joint, then it will not be a problem. However, the harder part is sourcing a wire with a proper insulation that can run that type of voltage. Most wires at harware stores only have a 600v or 800v current rating. Keep in mind, when the HID system starts.....it's pumping out about 25,000V of electricity. If the wires are not of the correct rating, the electricity might arc thru the insulation. I'm sure I don't have to tell you thats a bad thing.

Note: High voltage wires are usually quite a bit more expensive and much much harder to find.

I was afraid this is going to be difficult. Still have to see what I'll do as extending the power wire to the ballast doesn't really solve the problem. It still would have to be mounted within approx. 5 inches of the headlight.
SC owners, where did you mount your driver side ballast?

Thanks
