LOL, imagine this thread...please tell me how your project works out. I need to know if this works, I also used goof off on my headlight once (never will I do that again) because after I baked it, some glue got stuck on the lens so I tried to get it off. It got it off, but screwed it up in the process...

Please let me know how this works for you, I need to fix mine also!

Yours look anything like that?

A finishing glaze is just as good.

Ive used both....and the Plastic Cleaner and Polish can only do so much. I prefer the rubbing compound and finishing glaze.

that reminds me: will this make the headlight look new again with no scratches from the sand paper?
With 2000 grit or above.....it should buff out by hand. Using a buffer for 1500 grit is best....and yes...it should remove the fine scratches.

Goo gone messing up the lens? never seen that happen before and ive used plenty of goo gone to remove glue from lens's. Well you can use 2000grt paper and sand it down. Then you need to use something like 3m scratch remover. Don't try sanding the whole headlight since you will spend about a week trying to get them to look like new again and you probably wont be successfull since it takes alot of trial and error to figure out the right combo. It takes me about a full day to get 2 lens's looking new again after sanding.

Anyone know where to get 2000 grit sandpaper? Walmart, Home Depot, Hardware stores around me don't carry anything higher than 600. Maybe Pep Boys will have it?

NYLEX: yes mine looks beat up like that and even worse. some parts pf the headlight actually turned white!!! i went to kragen, pepboys, and home depot and still no love with the 2000 grit sand paper however, i did see 1500. im going to head out again and see if i can find some at some other local stores. i just cannot believe goo gone can do this. i think i wouldve had better chances with the good ol WD40.

What I do is sand the headlights with 2k grit and finish it off with 2.5k grit.

Then i use 3m Rubbing compound, whip out my Porter Cable with a Cutting foam pad, apply the 3m and all the hazy stuff should be gone. Then take a polishing pad and use Meguiar plastX as a polish. Comes out clean.

I would suggest you polish it with the compound first. If that doesn't fix it then use the sandpaper. Reason being you're gona be buffing the hell out of the lights to bring the shine back after sanding....trust me I know

You will thank me later.

PS: I'm not sure if I posted too late or what. Have you already used the sandpaper?

I used 1500 grit, and a Makita drill with a buffer tip, and it buffed out just fine. If your gonna do it by hand i would suggest going with a higher grit, unless you dont mind the blood, sweat, and tears.....
