Whattayaknow?! Sylvania Silverstar burnt out...
Just a week or so back I made a post regarding the Sylvania 9006 highbeam bulbs modded to fit the normal headlight. Well as I was driving to work today I pulled up behind a truck and saw my driverside headlight was out.
I was worried that it did what some of you said it wouldn't.. fry the wiring harness or whatever.
I'm not exactly sure what caused it.. but I pulled the bulb and it appears to be burnt out. I could only look at it really quickly as I was running late to work but it seemed the silver/blueish tip thats on the bulb had melted down the inside a little bit.
I want to go to the store after work and buy another but I'm worried it may happen again, any advice/thoughts?

Yep, the oil on your skin will essentially fry the bulb. Hopefully you won't have to replace your fogs soon as well.

If its only been one week, you could have just exchanged them for another set. Silverstars are expensive. I've got them on my es..and they look much better than stock, but are still dim -__-'' Gotta do the 9006 mod soon though.

for those who want more output in halogen form, take a look at HIR bulbs instead. They have more output than your regular halogen (~1750 lumens vs 1000). Sure it cost $30 per bulb, but they will last longer than silverstar and it actually puts more light onto the road!
a very small notch is required to fit though, which is no problem.

I spend $30 on the silverstars anyways.. but too late now already bought em. To top it off my buddy told me he could get half off PIAAs... that was after I modded the bulb yesterday.. bastid

I used to use those halogen bulbs all the time. Silverstar, PIAA, MTEC, and a few other brands. They all failed within 6-10 months. I still remember that one time I paid $80 for a set of PIAA's that died in 2 months!!!
I say you guys should save up a few pennies and go get some HID's You can get a decent set of HID's with ballast and everything for about $150 or so these days.
