I originally had a PNP kit and trust me, the glare was terrible. Im sure oncoming traffic hated me. But with the retro it is great. I couldnt be happier and worth the $ spent. Save your money from the PNP kit and just get a retro done later. Just my .02

I'm no technical wizard or anything but I believe retro means basically getting another HID housing and projector and "retrofit" it to your car. Retro is more expensive and time consuming than your typical plug and play kits. If you must go plug and play I recommend XenonDepot (i'm not 100% sure they offer PNP kits compatible to the IS), they use genuine Philips bulbs and ballast.

What he said. But to clarify, you dont want to do a plug and play kit in reflector housing, you will blame people because of a glaring effect. Get a projector and do a retrofit. Projectors have shields that give a very fine cut off so you dont blind on comming traffic. With projectors, you then get a HID kit for it.

Hmm, yeah then I can't get PnP since the Prius' housing is huge and I'll definitely have glare if I install one (The XenonDepot ones look quite nice).

Dont some prius come stock with HID? Anyways oem hid with reflector housing is okay, like the is300. They have D2R bulbs that are less intense than the D2S blubs and the reflector housing are made to have less glare. This might be the same in the prius with oem hid.

Yeah but that's in the US. In Canada, we don't get HIDs. People have been telling me the halogen and the HID headlight unit are different.
