Default Relay Harness for Aftermarket HIDs

An interesting thought came up in the 2IS forums: Do relay harnesses matter? I know a vendor like XenonDepot who sells their kits with them would say that they do and I'm sure that on the safe side it would be better...

But has anyone experienced any problems with an HID kit that didn't have the relay harnesses? Let's try this:

1. What car do you own?
2. What kit do you own? For what set of lights?
3. How long have you had your kit?
4. Does it come with a relay harness?
5. Have you had any problems with your kit?

I'll start:

1. 2006 IS250
2. MTEC 6000K H11 (installed) and MTEC 6000K 9006 (not installed). H11 are low beams and 9006s are fog lights.
3. One week.
4. No.
5. No problems so far.

mikeho - I would heavily recommend using a relay harness...

This McCulloch dealer actually tells people that his kits have had issues w/o the harness and instructs people on how to make one. Haha. I just tell people to get one with a harness.

To save you the click:

I began selling some mcculloch hid kits and a few people including myself ran into a problem with the aftermarket kit. The lights would flicker on and off repeatedly as if it wasn’t receiving enough power to ignite the ballast. I couldn’t exactly pinpoint where the problem was. Whether it was the oem relay or the small gauge oem wires. I kept sending kits back to the manufacturer thinking it was a defective ballast until Doug (slammedvwgolf) suggested the fore mentioned problem. I researched it online and it proved true.
Adding an independent relay can either fix a problem or avoid problems in the future. It’s very necessary if your hid kit is aftermarket, may not be necessary for oem kits. In my opinion I rather feed the ballasts their own juice straight from the battery since these cars weren’t designed for high intensity discharged lighting.

Ok enough yapping.. here’s the how-to-
Good luck with the Mtec kit.

A relay harness.
Don't leave home without it.

We have been selling HIDs for 7 years. On some cars a harness is needed and other cars a harness is not. I would suggest using a relay harness to be on the safe side. The reason most vendors do not include a relay harness is because they try to purchase the kit for as little as possible. A relay harness costs money.

I don't have a harness. My ballasts were fine for 2 months.
Now they're smelling like burnt electronics. Oddly the lights don't flicker they work fine. Just smell.
