'90 LS400 headlight HID & projector retrofit
i can get after market projectors, HID kit. I plan to retrofit my OEM headlight into HID projector. the most difficult thing is how to deal with the OEM lens. you know 1990 ls400 lens do not clear as newer models, they're made of glass and have uneven surface for light diffusion
I am wondering how the beam looks like if i install projector and still use the OEM lens.
thanks for all inputs

it will look diffused. i don't remember if it was on here or another board, but i saw pics of someone who put a hid projector behind a fluted lens. it was ok, better than stock. but it didn't have that super sharp cutoff.
i was thinking of taking hte glass off and taking it to a glass cutting shop and checking o nwhat it would cost to have them polish it like when they make custom table tops.

thanks, I know some who make lens from clear plastic (any headlight shape) but i am worried that the plastic will not last long, it may turns cloudy after several months under heat
I also heard in this forum that polished lens wont give good result
If putting a hid projector behind oem lens will be better than stock then its worth doing it then. I saw on this board someone who did on an Audi and result was quite good, no glare at all, the only different is softer cut off

I did this on my Ls400. They put out good light even with the stock lamps. I used RX300 Projectors/HIDs. It was a ***** mounting the projectors and making sure they were level. Eagle came out with some clear lamps about after I did it so I picked them up for around 200 dollars I believe. They were good quality lamps. Not sure if they still make them or not. Just be ready for some long hours and you better have a power drill!
