Blown fuses after installing aftermarket highbeams
Before I start, I did a search and couldn't find an answer so any help would be appreciated. I installed Luminics Ultrawhite 9005 bulbs in my highbeams yesterday. While running a few errands at night I realized my HB's weren't working anymore. I got home and determined that the 15A fuse for the HB's was blown so I switched it out with the 15A fuse for the fogs and everything was fine. Today, I was driving around for a while and noticed again that my HB's were out. Popped my hood at an autoparts store and the fuse was blown again. Went into the store and what do ya know, they didn't carry the fuse. So now I have a blown fuse for my fogs and my highbeams and my local Autozone doesn't carry the right fuse. Now up until I got these bulbs I was running the stock Slyvania 9005 and never blew a fuse. The Sylvania was a 60w while the Luminics was a 65w. Could this be the problem? Luminics' website list the bulbs I'm using as compatible but I'm thinking they might not be. Am I missing something? Would upgrading the harness to the heavyduty harness that Luminics offers for the 9005 help? Someone suggested using a 20A fuse, would that solve the problem? Any suggestions?

Just stick to sylvanias, switch to ultra stars rather than their regular bulbs. The problem you are having is due to the wattage difference. Also know that if you go to a 20A fuse it might solve your problem but the factory wires still would be made for 15A usage, hence in the long run you are jeopardizing the integrity of factory wiring and harness. Also what I fail to fathom is why would you go to a high wattage HB bulb?? Do you use your high beams ALL the time that you need to have something that bright in the housing?
As I stated earlier, switch to sylvania Ultrastars (I think thats what the name is) and call it a day rather than switching to higher wattage bulbs.

methinks something is wrong with your new lights... without looking, and assuming nothing else is on that circuit (headlights are usually by themselves), 130 watts worth of lighting, and 12-14.4 volts should be no more than 11 amps current draw...
possibly they draw more than advertised?

Thanks for the replies. No, I don't drive with my HB all the time the reason I wanted to use these bulbs is because the HB at half power are what the DRL are and I wanted those to be white rather than yellow. These are the bulbs in question:

The website says they're 55w while the picture of the items says 65w

9006 are 55w while the 9005 are 65w. I would swap in the regular sylvanias and see if they blow. If they don't, then I suspect the bulbs. Is the fuse blowing when you turn on the highbeams or are they blowing during DRL use? The bulbs may not be DRL friendly? I don't know.
