Quick Newbie Question
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the nub question. I tried looking a bit but got frustrated lol. My 98' GS3 came with the stock HIDs. Now if I want to upgrade them do I have to do retrofit to keep the cutoff? Or can I just throw better bulbs in there?
Also my fogs are yellow can i just used brighter bulbs or do I have to get an HID kit for it?
Any Help is Appreciated,
-mike

first of all let me ask you a question: what do you mean buy upgrade your headlights???
1)if you wanna have just the whiter,or bluer instead of the yellowish, then all you have to do if just buy other bulbs with different color temperature. the one you have in your stock headlights is 4300K, so go for 5000k,6000k,8000k,it depends on what color you want. the stock bulbs are the best and brightest in term of light output though. and the cutoff is gonna be the same as you are having now.
2) if you wanna have better cutoff, then retrofit is the right answer. i just got mine done can't wait to put it on my car i'm gonna post some pictures for comparison between reflector housing with 6000k bulbs that i'm having now with the LS430 retrofit with 85122+ bulbs i just get done.
About fog lights, i dont know much about that so i leave that for other to answer IMO, yellow fog lights are nice and are something special about lexus though.

You'll need to make sure you get d2r bulbs if you're replacing the ones in the stock reflectors. If you want a little visual upgrade without sacrificing too much output, look for some 5000k or 6000k d2r bulbs; this will maintain the same cutoff and beam pattern you have right now. If you want to get better output, a retrofit is your best (only) option.
The fogs could probably be improved a little with brighter bulbs; but you'll probably spend $50 or so on high quality bulbs so you almost might as well get a 3000k HID kit; that'll make a huge difference.
