Default legality of HIDs

hey guys, i know that HIDs above certain temperatures are illegal for on road use in most states. however, is having 3k hid's for the low beams considered illegal?

i thought i read something a few years back that made me believe they were illegal. i could be wrong. what do you guys think?

i believe 3k for lows is illegal here in arizona.

when running 3k for lows, i get flashed, when running 4300k, never.

I think the real legal issue is if the car came with them or not...

if the vehicle was provided with them, then legal, yes, if not, then it would have to go through DOT testing to be considered legal...

since no one here has the kind of money to do the DOT testing thing, you can pretty much guarantee that any different color temp bulb, or retrofit, or even a rebased bulb set is considered illegal...

the difference is if it is close enough for the average cop to care...

No U.S. bound vehicle came equipped with HID fogs, keep that in mind.

It all depends on the design of the fog light, projector vs. reflector.

While the GS430's yellow glass gives off great results with a 4300k kit behind it, a 9006 kit behind any IS300 foglight will yield greater output intensity.

Now tell that to the cop who just pulled you over for having annoying 8000k fogs...

in my is250 the low beams are projectors with the fogs are not. i am sure the light output would great, but 3k is very noticable and bright. its easy to get away with 8k where i live. i may just try it.
