Default LED in DRL housing longevity

I was thinking about picking up a 11SMT 194 LED, but I heard there's a high failure rate due to the heat. Anyone experience these problems. Does a halogen DRL running at low wattage heat up the LED enough to induce premature failure? Or should I just go pick up an M4 peanut bulb?

I put that exact bulb in my car today. I was hopng for a whiter look,so,I am going to change it out. I can't answer your other question concerning the heat.

So you are displeased with the color? Maybe I should just go for the M4s

i've been using Polarg M4s before i discovered VLEDs.. The SMTs Vleds are actually brighter than the Polargs depending on how many LEDs you choose (11 smt, 19smt, 27smt)

A couple years ago, I had some issues with LEDs crapping out after a month or so in the DRL housing of my RX350. They weren't SMT's, but I do believe the DRL heat may have had something to to with the failure. Over the summer I ordered a pair of wide angle Hi Flux 5-LED bulb from SuperBrightLEDs. I've had no problems with them going on 4 months now. And they are very bright !

My advice would be to try a cheap-o pair of LED 194 bulbs first to see how long they last (you can easily find a pair for under $2.00 on EBAY.) Your experience may be different, but at least you can find out before dropping $13 on a really nice pair.

good luck

i never really liked buying from superbrightleds, their bulbs easily burnout and flicker based on experience..

I guess I'll go with the 11smts from vleds then. Would go would want to go with the higher SMT ones but since it's a more complex structure, I fear it is more likely to fail or have pieces break off into the housing. Is 11smts still brighter than the incandescent alternative? It should match okay with mobilehid's 6k HIDs right (has a slightly purplish white hue)?
