HID Bulbs - changing "from good to new"?

Question on for all of you guys. I ordered a set of replacement HID headlights for my 2GS from Sewell. They are not full headlights, just the sub-assemblies that do not include the ballast or bulbs. Just trying to refresh the look of the car by replacing old, faded headlights.
The original factory bulbs in the original headlights are still working fine. However they are up there in age, and I wonder if they lose any efficiency over time. If I got a set of new lamps, would they be any brighter? Of course, if I get new lamps, I'm going to get original Philips D2R lamps that come stock from factory.

Assuming your talking about the bulbs, yes, new ones will be better. As HID lights get older they get dimmer and more blue, which affects the output. By getting new OEM bulbs they will be whiter and maybe a little brighter. Now by replacing the ballasts or wiring, I wouldn't expect any change.

Changing out the old bulb with new bulb is recommended. Those old HID bulbs lose lumen over time. Here's my testing of old bulb vs new bulb:

Since you're replacing your entire headlamps, you might as well throw in a new pair of HID bulbs. I recommend oem 4300k bulbs though; higher kelvin bulbs (5000k, 6000k) have less lumen than 4300k bulbs. Good luck.
