How does the cutoff line form? I have an 07 is250 with OEM HIDs, and was considering switching over to 8000K, but I was worried about losing that nice line. Does it depend on the bulb used, or is it from somewhere within the headlamp fixture?

The line is with the headlight fixture! Going to 8K you will be losing alot of usable light (brightness)

Thanks for clearing that up for me. :]

Is it that big of a drop? I live in Dallas, TX so I have plenty of light around me. I was thinking of using 3000K HIDs for foglights, and contrast it with that slight blue from 8000. Should I reconsider 6000K instead of the 8000K?

I would go 6K and I think that would give you the blue and nice light! I got 5K in my GX470 and there is a hint of blue and great light.

No to 8000k. 6000k if you want to go for the look and don't mind the lost in intensity. I would go for 5000k.

^ I agree. Especially if you're going through a clear lens.

I have a ZKW-r swap in my TL and my 5000K bulbs appeared more like 6000K than if I was going through the stock fresnel lens.

5000K is a pure white with a slight hint of blue. Perfect compromise between looks and usable light.

I had 4300K in my GX at first and bought some 5000K bulbs plus I installed a 5000K Foglight kit! I like the looks and function of the 5000K over the 4300K--at least to my eyes

JX that's a SWEET cutoff line you got there on that IS. Congrats bro. I'm picking up a set of HIDs to play with for my new GS. I have a couple ideas in mind.

Soon as I pickup these headlamps to play with I'll be able to bring them to life

This isn't anything impressive or special compared to the pics earlier in this thread but figured I'd throw out a pic I'd taken a while back, everything here is covered in alot of snow so I haven't bothered trying to get a better shot.

Q45 projectors unmodified in a 2GS, pic taken with an Iphone from about 25-30 ft.
