Headlamp lenses DIRTY!!
Hi everyone!
I just bought a 99 ES300. Love the car so far but one thing bugs me. The headlamp lenses are dirty. Not the top or the bottom edges, just the part where the light shines. It's this smudgy filmy smear "coat" that disappears when it's wet but comes right back after you wipe the water off. It makes the headlamps look dull and might be messing around with the light output. Any ideas how to get it off? I don't want to spend hundreds replacing the headlamps just because they look "dirty".
btw, which exterior colors were optional for the 99 es300?
Thx

While it's rather tough to tell from the picture, it's possible that there is water vapor inside the housing cover. I was in a car accident w/ my es (not my fault). The body shop repaired everything, and they steam-cleaned the car. They apparently missed that one of the headlight covers was cracked, and when they steamed it, water vapor got inside. This vapor looked much like whatever is in the picture that you posted.

Thats odd. If there was anything that would have scraped against the headlight, it would surely have damaged the paint around the area. I can't think of anything that would corrode plastic but not damage paint. Could it be a layer of car wax that you never wiped off? That probably wouldn't be rough, but if its on the outside of the housing, you never know.
