Default Burn smell from HID bulb

I was switching around D4S bulbs and was placing them on a microfiber cloth when they were not in use. One of the bulbs seemed hot enough to have burnt the towel, and maybe some of the stuff got on the bulb as well. When I put the bulbs back in the car, there is a weird burnt smell coming from the inside of the projector, and I was wondering if it would have any effects on the car/bulb.

its probably burning off the small fiber particles from the cloth.

Will anything bad happen? Burnt things catch fire? Bulb goes out?

I wouldn't be too concerned. The worst that can happen is that it may shorten the life of the bulb.
