Default Just put in my phillips 85122+

Holly Yellow lights Batman!

I did a wash, polish and wax today and afterwards treated my baby to some fresh HID bulbs. She had the original 85122LL in there and after 7 years of use, I figured it would't hurt to switch them out.

Well, I guess my old bulbs were not that worn our because I can't really say that these are brighter. Yellower? For sure. Even my wife noticed when she got in the car tonight and said she "didn't like them" I tried to explain to her about kelvin etc, and told her that these put out more usable light and are rated to be actually a little brighter than the stock bulbs.

Either way, they are staying in there. LOL. I guess I just wanted to be wowed by a new fresh set of bulbs, but I really wasn't. I guess I need to get out of the city to really see the difference. I was so used to my stock bulbs that colorshifted to 5k that my new ones feel like really bright Halogen by comparison.

Maybe I'll be singing the praises of the new bulbs when it's just me and them on a backroad in PA. I do notice that the beam hot spots at 10 and 2 that my LS has is are a little less pronounced than they were before.

I'll keep you guys posted. It was maintenance anyway......

BTW- when I replaced the bulbs I disconnected the battery, but that was it. I have AFS on my LS, and so the lights are motorized. switching the bulbs out forced me to manually move the lights. I was scared when I saw the lights moving and thought that I had broken or messed them up, but they seem to be pointed where they were before the bulb swap and still move etc. Is there something that you are supposed to do to lock them in place before you swap bulbs? This way I will know for next time......

I got mine from The retro fit source. 100.00. Sorry no pics. But think of as a really bright halogen with a little more white. The don't really look HID, but they sure put out light like them. I like them so far. I just can't wait to get them out on a dark road. In NYC, it's hard to tell the differences.

The bulbs do have a break in period and they will get brighter and whiter.

Thanks for your response!

Hmm, eventhough the "+" designates that they do not colorshift? If they do colorshift ever so slightly and get brighter I will be very happy. Are you talking about my bulbs specifically or making a generalization of HID biulbs in general?

Just the bulbs in general. I check out hid planet and all the senior members have noted the brightness going up after a while. I'm not sure how much color you will get though.

Just noticed something I don't think I noticed before. Not a real problem, but not sure if I'm going crazy or not.

With the original 85122LL, when the light hit a wall, the light spread was a single notch in the center of the wall. A single step staircase if you will. Now, with the 85122+, it seems that the left side (drivers side) has yet another notch, in essence making two steps total. I could have sworn there was only one step in the spread before... Can anyone confirm for me who has an 04-06 LS?

Try swapping the bulbs from one side to the other, you may have a seating issue with the bulbs. Do that and see if the problem follows the bulb.
