Default Audi TT retro-fit on my ES

I have some Audi TT projectors on the way. I am going to retro-fit them into my es. I hope it looks as good as it does on the Audi's. Any comments?

POST PICS!!! After its done of course. Whos going to be doing the job for you? Are you going to do it yourself? If you do it yourself post pics and the steps I'm sure everyones interested. I really wanna see how it would look on a ES. I've seen a few retrofits on a SC but not any ESs. Should look pretty damn good.

I am going to attempt it myself. I will document the process. I am selling my 9006 HID kit. If anyone is interested, let me know, they are in the classifieds.

Amrit, that sounds sweet. I was looking in to doing the BMW 5 series/X5 conversion on my '96. I just don't know about sending my lights out to the west coast for a couple of weeks...
How does the size of the Audi projectors compare to the stock ES ones? Audi projectors look slightly smaller to me.
Where are you purchasing these projectors? The one thing that concerns me in doing an OEM projector retrofit would be if that the goods were from a shady source. I've read a lot of articles about thefts of TL and 02 Maxima lights, I'd hate to encourage some crook to desecrate some poor soul's 5 series or Audi to satisfy market demand for retrofits. I assume shops like Illusion are fairly reputable.

you can get x5 lights w/ xenon and everything on ebay for like $250. I would never send out my lights. You should either get it done locally or do it yourself. I dunno how hard it is. I am only gonna do the mod if it can be reversed. I think the es projectors are the biggest in the industry. The bmw ones are deff. smaller. I think the audi's and the bmw's are of simmilar size. I am getting the entire system from illusion lighting. I would also hate to see stolen stuff on the internet. I can only hope that these ppl are getting them in bulk from the supplier, or looking thru junk yards. The only thing that allows me peace of mind is that about 99% of ppl driving cars w/ HID have or can afford full insurance.

good luck with the installation!

BTW, just curious, do you have purple and blue fogs as shown by your sig? the contrast looks nice.

I was wrong, the x5 xenon are about $350-$400. My fogs are plasma, so they are different colors from differnt angles. One of them blew out, and I have the projector fogs now, so I'm gonna get xtreme white piaas.

Default Interesting thread on projector retrofits

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...r&pagenumber=1

This is an interesting thread comparing 1st Gen SC projectors (which I believe are the same as the ES ones) to BMW "E38" projectors. I think the author either means E46 (current 3) or E39 (current 5) projectors.

And the $1200 price for 5 series lights with Xenon/Angel Eyes sounds right. In my Bavarian Autosport catalog, that's the price for the kit to put the 01-03 style "angel eyes" lights w/HID into the 97-00 5 series (same body style, but with reflector lights, no angel eyes).

that thread is what sparked my interest in this mod. I had never even thought of it. It turns out that people are retrofitting bmw and audi projectors into all sorts of cars online.

Hey Amrit50, before you do anything, stop by my forum...someone just replied my post with some interesting info on the Audi-TT projectors you just ordered. I need your imput because it seems as if you've handled these before. Are they the same size or reliable candidates for retrofitting our cars? I need to know b/c I have some Audi projectors coming out of an A6 that I can get rt away but I need to know b/c our projectors would be the same size. Thanks
Mike

Check out what I found...

http://home.earthlink.net/~pliepl/_wsn/page4.html

Check out that light output!
(FOR THOSE THAT DON'T WON'T VISIT THE SITE)

Someone retrofitted a Honda Civic with Audi S4 projectors...
The first image shows the cutoff these "specific" projectors provide...the second shows the view from the driver's seat.
The third and fourth show the car from the side....What do you guys think?

Who's ES300 will feature the projector retro-fit first?

Just joking! Happy modding

Here's how I did it:
Remove the projector cylinders from the backing by unscrewing the 2 aiming screws, and breaking out the middle. Hollow out the upper and lower cutoff w/ a dremel tool:

Wire tie the projector to the es cylinder:

Front View:

Finished Product:

I've only got one light done. It took about all day. The next one will be much smoother. The cut off is very sharp, and the coloring is way better.

Dang Amrit!!! That's Gangsta! I love those lights! That's about all I needed to see! I'm on my way!!!!! Does it do the color effect (violet/blueish) too?

Sidenote:

Those Audi TT projectors, didn;t they come with their own ballast and bulbs too or are you using your other set you had for sale?
