Default 5000k 9006 hid kit. Very different results

Dont know why I didn't just order from xenon depot to begin with, but I learned my lesson. I bought 5000k ds4 bulbs for my GS. I wanted to match the fog lights to them.

First kit a friend gave me from Mod express. They were suppose to be 5000k. When lit they didn't even look like 6000k they were so blue. Plus after 10 minutes one side failed.

Second kit I bought fom DDM express, also suppose to be 5000k. Much better then the kit from mod express but still too much blue tint to match 5000k blbs from xenon depot. Also occasionally one side won't ignite.

Third kit, I said enough screwing around and bought a 5000k kit from xenon depot. Both fired first time and the color was bang on match to ds4 5000k bulbs plus hey match perfectly with my 5000k led city lights from vleds.

So lesson learned, next time I'm goin straight to xenon depot.
I have one question though. Is it normal for them to flicker when the first light up for about 30 seconds? The work fine after they warm up, but I was just wondering as my stock bulbs never flickered.

cant address the flickering but i was told from DDM before getting some HID's that they will never match up

even some high end bulbs I'm told, dont match up sometimes. bulbs are all manufactured in the same place, same conditions. higher end brands just filter them out and test them before putting them in the market

I can totally understand there can be some variance but 5000k is a color temperature that can be measured. Our light box at work has a 5000k setting so I had a reasonable expectation on what 5000k should be. The mod express was so far off it looked more like 7000k and the ddm set was bluer then my truck which has a 6000k set.

I'm just saying if you want true 5000k your better off goin to xenon depot.

That sucks how you have to deal with all that. I guess if you really wanted to match the color of the fogs from one HID company best bet is to buy from the same company so the result is the same.

The kit for my wife's 4runner used to flicker a bit after I first installed the kit almost 3 years ago. Now they don't flicker at all, but they do tend to take a few seconds longer to warm up than the stock bulbs on my GS.
