Default Who was the black 92 SC400 w/the retro HIDs?

I was driving home around 5:30pm this tuesday night and on 101 north nearh San Francisco..passing SFO(airport) when alongside me, came this very stock looking black SC400 w/a cell phone antenna in the back but had the BRIGHTEST HIDs I'd seen on my car. His HIDs made my HID kit look stock.

It HAD to be a retrofit. I've had just about every single HID kit on the market and nothing looked like that

Lex400sc, I bet your cars lights look like his. His looked like an OEM HID kit w/bluish white light that illuminated into bluish white on the ground. It was not the Hella 5000K kit or anything like that. It was way brighter than that.

ANyhow..while I was checking out his lights, he was checking out my LED tails so we both got a shock I guess.

It's time for some retros. This HID kit is not cutting it.

Anthracite:
1) Of the (Plug & Play) kits you've used.....which ones would you say were at least somewhat worth the money?
2) What company are you looking to for retrofit?

Default CATZ

I've had:

1)The original Phillips HID kit (4500k...white light but flickered)
2)K2 HID kit (6000K ...white/green light....cool...have it on my civic)
3)Hella HID kit (6000k...white/blue. REALLY blue..but got fix it tickets for it)
4)Catz HID kit (6000k...white/purple...>REALLY good..but it's not available anymore

I would say the Hellas's look the coolest but you'll get pulled over.
The Catz are cool but they aren't available anymore.

I'd go for the Catz or Raybrig kit right now.

Default Nope no word

I'm still waiting for my fog lights.
It's going to be awhile I think. I don't expect the headlight retrofit to happen until WAY into next year if that.

retro fitting as it applies here, means changing your stock headlight projector lens to that of the audi, bmw ,etc european type lenses(these lenses offer different types of improved lighting with the hid's)

Very good information. I would recommend that you stay away from 8k....there is not much useable light in that spectrum.....the highest you probably want to go is 6000k tops.

take a look in the link I posted or review the lighting forum

For your HID questions I present to you the official HID FAQ

http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/index.htm

Knock yourself out...I feel alot of people here have good questions but lack the information form the HID pros. These guys have retrofitted and installed kits on thousands of cars by now.

this is a very informative faq, possibly bias ?

basically the jist of what im reading, that if its not a phillips or sylvania HID bulb, its basically garbage, and having HID's in the first place is of nominal advantage over halogen, unless you get the entire lens and optic housing conversion done as well.

would you guys who have HID's in the car that are not retro-fit say that its worth it ?

Default yes it is

The kits definitely improve upon stock.
I've done a side by side comparison where I had the stock bulb on one side and HID on the other.
You could NOT tell that that the halogen bulb was on.

Those other people always speak in theory. WE all know that theory and application are two different things
