Default What would cause the check exterior lighting light to come on..

Yep...the (little car with its rear light) error light came on on my guage cluster and I was wondering what would cause the problem. A buddy and I checked all the rear lights and they all lit up fine. Headlights and turn signals worked. I did notice that my driverside bumper sidemarker lite was not working. Would that cause that error light to come on? Let me know if I answered my own question..

You didn't say if the little warning light comes on:
1. just when you start the car, and then does not go out.
2. when you turn on the headlights at the 1st or 2nd click stop.
3. when the brake pedal is pressed.

I think you answered your own question, though.
wiggle the bulb that is out, sometimes they are not blown, just not making contact. This will cause the warning light to come on too. If it is truely blown replace it and see if the warning light goes out.

PS. don't forget the high mount brake light. I always forget to check this bulb.

My sidemarker bulb burned out and it did not trigger the lamp. I wish it did because it took me a while to notice it.

Thanks guys for your help. I am trying to find the time to replace that bulb. To clarify things, The indicator light is off when I turn on the car. It only comes on and stays on if I step on the brake pedal. If you guys have any other ideas I could try please let me know.

it's only on when you press on the brake? i would say again to check the lights when you press the brakes, including the light on the spoiler / rear dash.

If it only comes on when you press on the brakes then it is a buld associated with the brake lights. It could be a blown bulb or a intermitent loose connection to a bulb.

good luck.

Even though the brake bulbs light, they could still be faulty, Also the incorrect bulbs (even though they fit and work) will cause the problem. Make sure u use the correct bulbs. Just start by replacing one at a time, each time re-checking the dash warning light.
