Can anyone answer my question about painting light bulbs? Can I mask off the light bulb and paint the light bulb with hi temp paint?
Here is a link to my inquiry:

You mean the actual bulb right? Not just the lens?
No you can't paint bulbs. The paint will absorb way too much light, get too hot, and melt the bulb. I've heard of tinting reflector elements and lenses, but never a bulb. I believe the bulbs you get from stores that are blue are done with super thin layers applied much better than a spray can could do.
Give it a shot if you like, see what happens. But I bet you will just get a *pop* within a few seconds.

siniquezu,
The link to your inquiry is closed. Besides the bulbs in reference were probably no more than a cheap imitation. I have seen these peddled on an auction site. I can refer to a site http://64.26.1.50/go/325ci/resources/mods.html that will give you an idea on how to paint your bulbs. But I would not recommend it. I have tried this myself with little success, before purchasing the Philips 'Silvervisions'. The effort, time and the money spent (wasted) as well as the end result, do not match up in spending a little more to have the right look. Painted bulbs constrict the light to emit through the glass. Even if you provide open ports you still reduce the full illumination.
My suggestion is to go with a manufactured silver coated (non-painted) bulb. I can tell you where to get them, if you are interesed.
The saying goes; If you can afford a Lexus, why skimp on the little stuff? Do it right!

The reason I want to paint my light bulbs is because they don't come in white with a paint coating of silver. They only come in amber and I want to use hyper white light emitting bulbs.
An as for the light bulb popping, it's only a blinker so there shouldn't be enough heat to pop the bulb should there?

Why would you want to paint white bulbs? The whole idea of silver coated amber bulbs is to clear out the egg yolk affect in the Lamp housing. Are the Hyper bulbs you have, blue in colour?

It is a royal pain in the a$$ getting the "popped" glass out of the housing - don't do it. Get yourself a set of Polarg bulbs and be done with it.

I had to do it when I got a ticket for illegal bulb in the rear. I bought some glass int from an art store and dipped my bulb in it. Never had any problems since, now also be aware this wasn't a headlight bulb. Headlight bulb is a big no no.
