Default Aftermarket headlights melted..

Hello everyone...

I have seen a few posts about aftermarket headlights melting the adapters that the bulbs plug into.. This just happened to me today, and I was wondering where I can get a replacement adapter/plug..

Yikes! Sorry to hear. What sort of bulbs caused this, and did just the plugs melt? If so, those are generic to the 9005/9006 bulb and you can get them most anywhere; you are not limited to Lexus part sources.

melted harnesses are typical with those super-high wattage bulbs. the standard wattage for the sc is 55W for the 9006 low beam and 60W for the 9005 high beam. i had a low beam harness melt on me - when i checked the bulb, it was freakin' 80W  i went to the dealership and got a harness for like $17.50 and changed over to sylvania silverstar bulbs (did the 9005 to 9006 conversion) and am pretty happy now

Guys,

A couple of years ago I switched out my Hi-beams as well as low-beams with PIAA brand lights. I believe they were called at the time Platinum Super Whites. I have been extremely happy with them, as they have help my failing night vision.

Thanks for the replies... I ordered a new connector from the dealer, so it should be in soon. Thanks! What is involved in the 9006 to 9005 conversion?

Here is a great tutorial on how to do the 9005-9006 conversion:

http://pub.radium5.com/~legend/LEGEN...d/bulbmod.html

while the difference isnt dramatic, its certainly noticeable (with good bulbs). im using sylvania silverstar 9005's as my lowbeams now - the color is really close to pure white, and its brighter all around. i couldnt actually cut the guides on the inside of the bulbs, so what i did was get some 80 grit sand paper (really rough stuff) from home depot and sanded them down with that and a revlon nail filer (which i only had for this purpose ).

you dont have to file them down perfectly, but the if youre looking straight at the interior of the bulb, you want the first 2/3 of the guides to be sanded down to where they are very even with the walls. the back couple millimeters dont even have to be sanded at all, which i think works better since it makes for a tight fit in the 9006 harness - youll have to push down fairly hard, but it makes for a secure fit.

here's another link that covers another part of the conversion process:

http://vmac.org/~weston/teg/9005conv/

due to the way the 9006's lock into the projector housing, youll have to cut the top guide on the perimeter of the lighting as shown when yu click on that link. that part is a must, otherwise it wont lock into position/fit into the housing at all. as for the ring portion, that is unnecessary (at least on SC's) as mine lock just fine without adding a second ring to the base of the bulb.

BTW, does anybody know if theres a way to adjust how my projector low beams in my sc400 aim? im looking to aim them up slightly so i can see farther down the road, but not so much so that i bling oncoming traffic. is there a screw i need to adjust or anything? do i need to take out the housing?
