Arrow D2S: OSRAM XENARC 66240 CBI // vs // D2S 4300K Philips 85122+

A friend of mine recently purchased a pair of the Osram CBI bulbs from TRS, we did some comparison pictures.

Bulbs were installed on an Acura TL. (CBI Bulb on Driver's Side, Philips Bulb on Passenger Side)
Keep in mind that the D2S 4300K Philips 85122+ are in used condition and that the CBI bulbs are brand new.

All pictures below are unedited (except for the labels of course),
shot from the same location using the same camera settings while mounted on a tripod.

Wow those cbi's are worth a little more money. Keep in mind from what I read from experienced hid planet members, the cbi's get even brighter as they burn in a little. :-) I have to get these for my LS460 projectors!

You're right.
Once "broken in", the CBI's output performs even better.
But for $185, they are pretty expensive simply for a pair of bulbs.

The way I see it, don't get it unless you're super enthusiastic about lighting output.

Looking at the bulbs do they appear blue?

Just got the CBI D4S for 07 IS250 with stock HID and love them. The stock Philips were decent but cutoff was blah and soft. With the CBIs (@ about 30 hrs) the cutoff seems sharper and color and brightness are a lot better. Got mine last month from TRS who price matches XD when they were 15% off at $152. Money well spent since one of my stock Philips died.

So I just drove past a new Maxima this morning and damn that cutoff and light was amazing! Will these bulbs match the white that they were putting out? What about the newer cars from Audi and BMW? They seem to have some much whiter lights than out Lexuses.

A lot of it has to do with the headlight housings, but generally all vehicles that come with HIDs use 4300k bulbs.

So the Maxima's have better housings that create a whiter light? I would think that the housings and lens only affect the spread and cutoff.

The shield within the projector has a lot to do with the color that is emitted, as ultimately the "color" is a result of the cutoff band right at the top.
