are clear tailights legal in so calif
I just cleared out my tailights, i was driving in front of a cop and got really nervous because i heard of people getting pulled over for clear tailights. but i was thinking that it was because thier driving lights were clear too. i dunno. is anyone versed in california road laws?

Rear tails.
If you get into an accident involving improper signalling, you are at fault. There was a case recently where some guy had altezza style lights and was rear ended causing him to be paralyzed. The court found that both drivers were at 50/50 fault because of the use of improper/illegal taillights on a registered street driven vehicle.
I would think that clearing out your tails would be the same precedent.

I think it's legal.
The tail lights still retain at least one reflector each, the signal bulb is orange, and the brake light is red, correct? If these three conditions are satisfied, your tail lights should be legal. The tail light assemblies are still OEM DOT-approved, the quality of the parts are not compromised, and the modification does not effect they car's safety or ability to function.
Besides that, I don't think there's a cop in all of CA that can be sure that your tail lights are modified. The DIY clear tail lights are pretty subtle as tail light modifications go. And you don't see all those ricer Honda guys worrying about their gross *** tail lights drawing attention, so they obviously aren't being harassed too much. You have the least to worry about!

it is legal. actually on a lot of new cars (for example my acura tl-s and also the new 3- 5-series), the tails ae all red and clear, NO amber.
so yes it's legal to have clear tails, BUT *BUT* you NEED to have either amber or red turn signal light, otherwise you will get pulled
