Default Lexus OEM HID

I just bought a GS400 OEM HID ballast and bulbs and wondering if anyone can help me out. I want to install this on a 1992 SC400.

First, I notice that on the aftermarket HID there are more wires then just a positive and a negative wire but on the OEM ballast I bought there's only the negative & position. Is it just as simple as connecting the positve to positive and the negative to negative?

Second, should I moditfy the bulbs or the headlight housing to get the bulb to fit correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

i think it's just plug and play for oem hid but i haven't seen it in person so can't say for sure. for the bulbs, you can try to contact autolamps-online.com and see if they have the base to fit your bulb, otherwise you can get silicone to seal it, but changing bulbs later would be tough

yeah seems like it's just direct connect to the power connector from the car. that's about the same as my kit too

Becareful of how you hook this up, do not just hook up to 12V, it would cost you more on repairs to your car.

read this first.

http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/headlamp-harness.html

I was planning to add HID to my other car, IS300 HID in Toyota. I already have the harness, can't figure out the diode.

"Name an example of an insufficient wiring harness?
Most HID kits comes with some sort of relay. The important part is that the relay is powered through a high current curcuit like directly to battery. In this picture, relay works as a polarity converter. (As a side note, correct polarity is a neccesity to make the ballast work, so that is not bad.) The bad part here is that the relay does not releave the stock headlight curcuit from the start current peaks. Also the ground connection in this example goes through stock headlight wiring, which on most cars has too thin wires. This harness will function properly for a while, all depending on how oversized your headlight curcuit is. It might start failing after 100 start/stop cycles, it might take 1000, but on most cars it will eventually prematurely wear out at the weakest point. The parts mentioned in above DIY relay only cost a fraction compared to truouble shooting labour and parts in the headlight curcuit. "

I was going to put it in until I read the above statement.

The important part of that diagram is the diode, the diode is designed to transfer and "absorb" the inrush of current. The relay is just ON/OFF, still the damage is present. The Diode will eleminate the that.

Print the picture and go to a electronic shop and ask them how you should install the diode accodring to the diagram.

WARNING: installing the diode in the reverse is pretty risky.
