I thought the HID consumed much less energy than our 9006s except when the d2r bulb is in ignition.

No.

However, you do need a battery relay to reduce the draw from the alternator when the ignitors fire up.

personally i wouldn't get anything but philips or osram. hella is pretty good too. and i won't get anything more than 6000k, anything higher is definitely not quality stuff and they are too dim. philips 6000k kit are going for about 450 shipped now

The color temperature 8000k cannot be achieved without the use of a blue coating over the HID bulb. This defeats the whole purpose of getting HID. If you are getting HID's why do you want a blue coating? Isn't your beam supposed to be white/blueish enough that you don't need it? Also, using a blue coating makes your light output dimmer -- so it's as if you have HID's but they are the equivalent to blue coated halogen's but a little brighter -- for $400.

The color output of 8000k's are also really really blue. Skyish blue. Ricey looking in my opinion -- not the kind of reaction you'd want after shelling out that kind of money for HID's.

Also, the only real bulbs (no coating) that can achieve a higher color temperature than 4100k/4300k's are Philips Ultinon 6000k's. Most of the 8000k or higher color temp. bulbs are cheap Korean bulbs that end up blowing after a short period of time. The Philip's bulbs should outlast the life of your car with normal use.

PHML, rominl, SouthernSunGS, and I (there are others too) bought out Philips 6000k kit from a vendor that sells the kits at a great price with 100% quality parts. His name is Jason and he can be reached at: discountcycle@ureach.com -- His kits go for around $455 shipped. If you go to groupbuycenter.com and search for 6000k then you can find a group buy led by him (most of the time when he has them in stock). Do a search on 6000k and you can see the color temp they put out. It makes stock HID look yellow

actually a slight update, osram also has 6000k bulbs that naturally ignites at 6000k without any tint on the glass

I got my 6000K Philips Ultinon HID kit for the 9006 housing (fogs on a 2nd gen GS) for $420.00 shipped to Canada from Jason!

Awesome lighting now. Now I have to upgrade the stock OEM HID low beams from 4100K to 6000K because they don't look so white now with the fogs on..............
