Lightbulb How to make HID burner paler.

Hello, LEXUS pilots!!

I tried to make HID burner paler. This is a report of the result.
http://www7.plala.or.jp/soaristo/page/diy/pale_hid1.htm

It is written in Japanese, and It can translate to English by Altavista.
(But it is very strange (funny) English.)

At the end of the report, there are useful figures when you convert HID burner by yourself.

What does that mean? Will it make the HID bulbs more blue?

Cool

Really....I think SOARISTO needs to start making an "ENGLISH VERSION" of his website.

There are so many English-speaking fans of his site right here on CL and we sure need to soak up all that info on his website, if we actually could understand it heheheh

According to his pictures, he converts a 4100k HID bulb to a 6000k bulb by painting the return wire of the bulb to blue using the Japan Brand High temperature blue color spray paint (up to 500 degree C). His description also mentioned that after the paint dried out, the first time to light up the bulb within 10-15 minutes, smoke/fumes would come out of the paint due to the chemical material in the paint. After that paint would be harden. I believe that he mentioned this as a important step before putting the bulb back to the headlight for usage. The smoke/fume could be poison !!!!

He also showed how to remove the brown strip on the Philip D2 bulb glass before painting the return wire. Details and steps were in Japanese. He definitely needs to translate the whole page to English before we can try it in US.

i think the interesting part is how to use a blade to peel away the metal block on the d2r. i wonder how long it would take to do that, maybe i can try that on my bulbs too

the article basically says that on 4100k bulbs, you see a bit of yellowish color at the bottom, and that's caused by the brown ground wire on the bulbs. if you paint that thing blue, it would have some of the 6000k effect

If you touch the HID bulb, just clean with rubbing alcohol.

ok i hate you

you can touch the bulb, but you need to make sure you use rubbing alcohol to FULLY CLEAN everything before putting it back.

the paint? easy.... go to pep boys or kragen... most of the engine enamel are 500C ready.... some of them are even higher
