putting IS HID into 98 ES
#2
If you're talking about the whole IS assembly, it will not fit into the ES, if you are talking about the bulbs and ballasts only, the ES will power them, but you would have to splice new plugs onto your harness to fit the ballasts.
I have 2000 ES hids and the ballast is connected to the bottom of the headlight so the wiring harness plugs directly into the housing and runs internally to the ballast and back to the bulb. Maybe all Lex's are like this I don't know. Another problem you would have is installing the D2R bulb into your H7 housing, I've heard of some people doing that by using silicone, but would YOU trust that??
Your best bet may be to purchase an H7 HID kit from Jason at discountcycle@ureach.com if you want to do the install and still keep your stock housings.
good luck!

thanks for the info.
Any ideas whether or not the stock housing would affect the light pattern of the D2Rs?
I'm going to check out the H7 parts too.

the pattern won't be as good as a d2r in a housing made for d2r but it would probrably work. all of the conversion kits use a d2s which is the same bulb without the glare strips on the bottom sides of the bulb. unless you are getting a really good deal on the lex hid system, you may be better off to go with a conversion kit.

Like cheapsk8 said, the D2R bulbs won't fit properly, you'd have to silicon them in place and your beam patterns will be off, hard to know how much until you try. You'd be better off getting quality a H7 kit that will keep your beam patterns correct. You probably won' t find a quality kit for $300, but it'd be worth the extra money to get something that will work properly like the kits from Jason that were mentioned earlier. We are doing this for better lighting after all.

could you replace the D2R with D2S (so it fits properly) into the ES housing?
I'm going to check them out next week. I think I will go ahead with it if I can replace the bulbs with the correct fitting ones.

The D2S bulbs will have the same problems as the D2R's. You need bulbs that have been rebased by someone to fit into H7 sockets with the light emitting from the correct spot on the bulbs. Incorrectly rebased bulbs will have the same beam pattern problems as you would otherwise, and they may not last long, so it's very important to buy from a reliable source.
