Aftermarket HID's going to be BANNED?
Okay After a few forums posts I went out in search of some new HID-D2R Bulbs 6000K specifically. I came across this website which is actually pretty informational, you car junkies should check it out...expecially the part in the info section where it says DOT / NHTSA may ban the use of aftermarket HID units, so you GS owners who have 9006 bulbs instead of HID's (D2R) should maybe think about upgrading sometime soon? Anyways the website is posted below, tell us what ya'll think

Boy is the government screwed up! Too bad again you can buy them and the import them. Do you think customer will stop you? Nope.
When the government steps in, it is all over.

I fully am aware of the ban, but guess what, I still see HID's for sale @ my local shops, they just sell them and buy them like nothing has happened. Weird! 6000K is sweet btw!!!!!!

guys do understand people around the US are not as fortunate as we are here to be able to afford only the higher quality HIDs. The government is partially right in banning HIDs because many kits out there are of a substantially lower quality. I have seen them dotting the roads blinding drivers in the opposite direction because they are not aimed correctly. It's happened to my cousin who thought he was getting a great deal. Personally, I think that banning is a rather abrupt step and should have been a secondary option. Higher testing standards should have been implemented first and certified shops for the installation of such kits should have been the first step.

from what I know HID usage in Toronto Ontario is illegal unless the car came equiped with them from the factory..... I inquired with traffic services of Toronto and from my understanding it is illegal unless it is a factory kit like and Audi or BMW with balasts and everything and is retrofitted to your housing. I'm repeating I'M NOT SURE 100% but that was my understanding. The thing is HIDs are sold here like McCulloch and others. I have seen HIDs on civics (not too many) which makes me think about how strict they are about it. I hope that helped alittle and maybe other Canadians members can put their $ .02 like Hameed or anyone else North of the border

PandaGS30 e-mail me and I'll fill you in on some of the details on the ban. Also, I just got 6000K D2R bulbs the other day so I am able to still import tham from Gremany. Don't know for how much longer though.
