My LS400 is hesitating and stumbling during harder acceleration?
Hi all! I have an issue with my car, it has started stumbling when I press the accelerator approx. 60% or more. No warning lights have shown. Sometimes (rarely) it downshifts and goes like it's supposed to, but most often it does not.
What happens is I lose pretty much all power and the tachometer is just bouncing around 1500 RPM. Idle is absolutely fine and the car is running smoothly as long as I don't step on the gas. When I drive and this does happen, I can let off the gas and the issue goes away and I can press the gas lightly and accelerate slowly.
A little backstory to add context: The car was broken and stood more or less still for almost 2 years after some electrical issues that I caused myself. Now I have gotten spark plugs w cables, timing belt and a lambda sensor replaced by a mechanic.
I also replaced the ECU since I accidentally fried the original one, but it's the same part so that shouldn't be an issue.
It almost seems like it has trouble downshifting, or maybe the engine doesn't get enough gas? Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

did you replace the ECU with a known rebuilt unit? it can still be bad but check the fuel pump first. i suspect the pump is not working as it should at higher RPMs. what electrical issues did you have?

The electrical issues were caused by a stupid mistake. I had left the car door open, drained the battery, went to get a starter but someone had changed the settings on it to 24 volts for a truck, didn't think to check, so I instantly killed the ECU.
I had such a hard time finding another one, but eventually I did, unfortunately I don't remember if it was rebuilt. I haven't noticed this issue with this ECU before though. The ECU was also installed by a car electrician so I would hope he checked it out before installing it.
It's so strange because I have gotten the car to rev to 5-6k RPM, but most of the time it just wont. I was kind of hoping that it was old bad gas in the tank, but I have no idea what that actually does. Could it be a clogged fuel filter inhibiting higher flow?
Thank you for taking the time to respond!
