Default 1992 LS400 Crankshaft Leak

Hey ya'll, I've been dealing with an oil leak and want to confirm that this is most likely due to a worn out crankshaft seal. The oil pan and cross member are extremely sludgy and I am guessing that the leak from the crankshaft seal is being blown all over the bottom of the engine by the fans. As of now, I've been monitoring the oil levels and have been needing to fill up a quart of oil every 800-900 miles. One thing I noticed is that the oil has a reddish hue. Is it possible that the water pump may be the culprit? Obviously a leak exists and I plan to replace the timing belt in the near future although I was hoping to gain more insight as to where the leak is coming from before doing so. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

There is too much oil everywhere to know what is going on, wash the engine bay then watch for leaks.

yeah that's a pretty good sign it's the oil, and the only seal there is the front main seal (crank seal).

the red hue does lead me to believe it could be transmission fluid related! how's the ATF level?

Wash down the area then add some leak detection dye to the engine oil. Run the engine for 5 minutes than use a UV light to pinpoint the leak location.

Both dye and UV penlights are available at Amazon.

If it's on the power steering side then it could be from the power steering pump. Check there as well.
