It’s a fitment issue.
3/8” is half a millimeter smaller than 10mm.
.5mm doesn’t seem like much but try stretching the internally reinforced rubber hose over the small barb (hump) on the hard line. Check back and let us know how it goes.
This is exactly why I asked Paulo where he found 10mm hose.

I've had the same problem even a heat gun to get the hose toasty didn't help much.

McMaster-Carr - but it's rather pricey.
Buna-N (Nitrile) is compatible with ATF; automotive fluid pressures (especially fluid returns) are no where near it's rated max pressure (I don't know how temperature affects burst strength). The only thing is PS fluid temp is a (?). I wouldn't use this at the transmission cooler for this reason.
This hose has been in PS service for almost two years with no issues.

$5 per foot is reasonable.
