I know people who drive modded cars like that. They live with their parents and have $20,000 in credit card debt. And thats in addition to their 5 yr car loan.
But I think its okay as long as you have your priorities straight. Check out the GS forum. Man those are some beautiful mods and very tasteful. But, I rather keep my GS original as possible. The car to me is beautiful the way it is. But I might change my mind later when the awe wears off a bit.

No More LS430
This is unbelievable!!!
On 11/1, Saturday, I put down the money for 2004 LS430 black/black. I got the deal through the internet... The saleman told me that he will let me know on Monday by noon when the car comes in. It shouldn't be more than a week. The price was MSRP - $5000
On 11/3, Monday, I didn't get any call. I called him around 4:00 and left a message. He'll called back and said he'll have the date tomorrow by noon
On 11/4 exact same thing happened
On 11/5 exact same thing happened
On 11/6. I called him and left a message. He said again he promised he'll have the information on Friday by noon. He didn't call me on Friday
On 11/8 I called and left him a message. He didn't call me back
On 11/9 I called him and talked to him. He said he was busy yesterday. He will have the information for sure on Monday by noon.
Today, 11/10, he did called right at 12:00. Guess what??? He said that he located the car, but I will have to pay another $500 in order to get the car. I was so upset and told him that we already agreed on the price. He said that the price I got was so low that the dealer didn't make money....Well, I told him there's no way I will pay $500 and told him I wanted my deposit back....A few minutes later, he called and said that he can get the car and I don't have to pay $500....I told him I don't want it...

Make sure you call Lexus Customer Service and let them know how wonderfully your dealer treated you and you killed the deal.

Too bad...that dealer is CLEARLY jerking you around. 
That being said, in the end if you want the car badly enough and if other dealers are too far away (Lexus learned from a Ford Dealer on every corner), they $500 is not TOO much "ransom" to pay. The concern is if they do business this way, how will they treat you for the rest of the deal and if you have trouble.
Do you have your original deal in writing? If they accepted your original $500, then you do have a case. I would not be afraid to contact Lexus. At least give them some grief. And, if you DO buy the car, BE SURE to give them VERY BAD "report card" (survey) marks that will cost them money.
In the end, remember, although it's a "freshened" bodystyle, it's still essentially a 4 year old bodystyle andwithin a month or two these cars will be littering up dealer lots all over America. The market for $60,000+ cars is limited. You'll get your car at your price, but you might have to wait a bit. Or pay the ransom, but make sure you don't do anything positive for that dealership.
