1998 Subwoofer install on factory radio
My dad has a pair of subwoofers he used in his car from back in the day. We thought it would be cool if instead of it collecting dust, we could hook it up to my LS400. I've been trying to do as much research as I can but I'm still not 100% sure about the process. My dad is great with this kind of stuff but he's more so unsure about the specs of the LS400 and how it's done on this car specifically.
So the LS400 has 2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers, and then a subwoofer towards the back in the middle where the rear windshield is. Does that subwoofer in the back have a left and right input? Because we're going to use dual subwoofers with dual amps, it would need a left and right input. We were wondering if we can just disconnect the main factory subwoofer and use those outputs on the aftermarket subwoofers. or would that not work?
If that's not an option, is this a general idea of what would work for the traditional way?
The passenger side of the car:
1. Red power wire from the battery to the sub amplifier with a fuse close to the battery.
2. Black wire from the amplifier to somewhere with a ground
The driver's side of the car:
1. Take out the Nakamichi radio
2. Use posi taps on the factory wires (allows you to connect to factory wires without splicing)
3. Wires used would be:
5. Finish laying out all the wires/cables.
6. Hook everything up.
I still plan to do all the research I can before going through with it, as well as taking a look this weekend with my dad. I just wanted to get some information ahead of time if possible.

- positive/negative for the rear left speaker
- positive/negative for the rear right speaker
- blue wire for power (amp will turn on when the radio turns on)
- blue wire for the ground
5. Finish laying out all the wires/cables.
6. Hook everything up.

You might want to read the FAQ entry on Audio first. This is one of the posts
