Default Rear Brakes For 1st Gen Ls400

I need to replace the the rear pads on my 1990 LS400. My question is on rear brakes, I've heard that on rear brakes you have to "screw" the piston back into the caliper or can I just use a C clamp to push it back like the front brakes? Thanks for any info.

I inspected and cleaned my brakes a few months back--no need to screw in rear pistons. I hear that it's usually only necessary on domestics, but I do have to do it on my Prelude. I've not actually removed my rear rotor so I cannot confirm, but according to the factory manual, we have both conventional brake disc and pads as well as shoes in the rear and the shoes are part of the e-brake system. My impression is that turning pistons are only ever necessary when dealing with rear disc brakes and even then, only when brake shoes are not also part of the equation as is presumably the case on our cars. Drum/shoe combination easily lends itself to be part of the e-brakes hence no turning would be necessary or practical.

Do NOT turn the piston! Follow my tutorial on changing first gen brake pads and you'll be good to go in less than a half hour.

I bought my pads from http://www.irontoad.com
