Engine misfire
Hey folks I thought I would document something that happened to me recently with my 93 Celsior that may be of help to others.
The car had developed a bad misfire with an overheating left cat. To me that meant most likely the left coil had gone kaput but when I checked I found that wasn't the case as it was producing a pretty good spark so I figured then a possible distributor cap problem. Well I managed to get the cap off with just taking the serpentine belt off the idle pulley and forcing the hard molded cover back enough so I could get at the three 8 mm screws and was I in for a surprise!
That was what was left of my rotor. I had actually never seen that happen before in any car that i owned. Well I went ahead and ordered a new Toyota cap and rotor from Ebay and now she's working smooth as silk again. Note the rag stuffed into the space under the housing to prevent any tools or stuff falling in there which is the LAST thing you would want to happen...

I'd be more concerned with why the rotor broke apart. Looks like either the rotor or the cap was not installed properly. What did the inside of the cap look like?

Inside the cap actually looked fine but I changed it anyway. I doubt it was an installation problem because the car has about 90,000 honest km on it.

Great post
The cap likely broke down from age and heat cycles the plastic went through

Yep could be. So I ordered another cap and rotor for the other bank already.
