Default Water Pump Sealant & Cam/Crankshaft Seal Grease Recommendation

Hi there, I'm going to do a water pump/timing belt job on my 97 LS soon. While at it, I'll be replacing the camshaft seals & crankshaft seal as well. For water pump, I've heard folks using Toyota seal packing 1282B (expensive), Permatex Ultra Black (max oil resistance), Ultra Grey (maximum torque) & Right Stuff, so which one would you recommend? For the camshaft & crankshaft seals, I'll go dry on the outside lips & lube the inside lips w/ either motor oil or some high temp grease. What do you think?

I've used all of the fipg throughout my days but recently ordered a tube of the Toyota 1282B. If I remember correctly, it starts to set in three minutes so you need to be proficient in reinstalling anything you put that sealant on. So far, I love the Toyota 1282B despite the stress of having to be quick. It'll probably the be only fipg I use from now on for surfaces involving coolant. It's not intended for sealing surfaces that come in contact with oil.

As for the cam and crank seals, you have the right idea. Just use a dab of engine oil.

I bought a complete Aisin TKT-030 Timing Belt kit, an OE-matched components that comes w/ everything including the hydraulic tensioner. Aisin is the OE supplier for Toyota, Lexus & other Japanese automakers. After lots of research, I've found out the gasket that comes with the water pump in the kit is a multi-layer metal gasket impregnated with an inner liner of NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) & Aisin specifically stated NEVER USE SEALANT so I'll follow their instruction.

Smart.
Don't add anything to the WP gasket it makes for a nice clean install.
Toyota has been known to pre grease the inside of some crank seals. If yours is not the grease they use is 08887-01206.
Just make sure the surface where the outside of the seal seats is clean and completely dry 👍

That's not the grease Toyota uses on crank/cam seals and oil filter O-rings, 08887-01206 rubber grease is used on internal brake parts. I've yet to find the grease Toyota uses on seals, bought a couple of types people claimed was the product but it turned out not to be the case.

Ok, good to know, I grabbed my tube to make sure I didn’t typo the part number.
i just used it on a brake job last week. I think it would be fine on the inside of a crank seal.

Yes for sure. I use it on all kinds of applications it is rubber and plastic safe and no issues for engine parts.

This might be the grease Toyota uses on seals can't confirm

I'm sure any high-temp grease or motor oil is fine. Thanks, guys.

Any Lithium based, NLGI #2 grease will work. Just don't slop it on.
