Power steering pump swap??

Power steering pump swap??
Ive read somewhere that somebody swapped a Ls430 Power steering pump into their Ls400. Im here wondering if its true, or if hes just trolling. Is there any videos/forums out there that I can find with more info regarding this? I tried looking, but had no luck. I am interested because they fixed a lot of the issues with the power steering pump on the Ls430s, and it wouldnt hurt to try and swap one in.

I've never heard of anyone doing this, but it could theoretically work.
The mounting bolts on the 2 pumps are 90 degrees from each other, so the 430 uses a bracket (pic).
You may have to keep the 400 reservoir...?
Depending what year your 400 is the reservoir is either mounted directly to the pump or mounted approx 6" away on 98 to 00 models.
The lines to and from the rack could present a challenge. Also, the ACV was relocated away from the pump on a 430.

Ive got a 98, so if I where to do this, all I would need to do is just get the pump and the bracket? I could plug off my acv holes too.

You may have to use generic hose between the pump and reservoir.
I would find a pump and a bracket in a salvage yard to do a test run for fitment before committing to the cost of a new pump.

Piece of info that may be relevant: In 97 or 98, there was a LS400 PS pump revision that addressed some things. It doesn't leak onto the alternator anymore for example.
The difference to go from 98 to the LS430 is less than the original LS400's to the LS430.
Also, I've never heard of this being done as well. Maybe you are getting this mixed up with the alternator? That is much more of a common retrofit.

Every LS400, 1990 through 2000, use the exact same vane pump.
The only change in 98 was relocating the reservoir, which actually worsened the situation. Introducing a rubber hose between the pump and reservoir created vulnerabilities and potential leaks.
400 pumps leak.
430 pumps do not.
