Cool Timing belt change How?

When I pulled away from the dealership last month I was outraged. They told me that I needed $8k worth of stuff done and that they could not do it in parts that it all had to be done at once. HA.

I live in Vegas and just moved here. I don't know of anyshops so I have decided that I will do the work my self. I have worked on toyotas and chevys and datsuns so it can't be that bad.

Has anyone done a TB before? If so do you have an outline to follow and warnings for me.

thanks
Zach

Well,

It is a simple procedure to replace the timing belt. I am sure if you did a search on the site there will be plenty of information for you.

Buy the service manual and your good.

Search on topic where to buy shop manual on SC or LS forum. I post many answer on where to buy he manual. Carson Toyota is one of them. There are two more listed on this forum as Lexus Dealer parts. Shop for price before you buy. I just bought a 99 LS 400 manual from Carson and it cost me less than $200.

If you worked on engine before, it shouldn't be that difficult for you. Take about 6 hrs for someone with the shop manual.

There is only one dealer here in Vegas... Did you went there????

Zach- Since you don't seem that anxious to proceed with a TB change (and who can blame you?), be sure that you really need to change it out before doing so. I would not take that dealership's word for it- they are a bit biased, you know?

If you'll do a search you'll see that there are lots of posts on CL of TB's lasting far beyond their recommended change intervals, and the belt's condition is easily checked by removing a few covers.
